This unique course is offered exclusively by Albeda and is the only one of it’s kind in the Netherlands. With the multilingual International event and marketing studies programme you have the best of both worlds of international events and marketing. At Albeda you will become capable of creating a unique customer experience. You will learn how to combine online marketing and live business events. The result: live-hybride events uniquely positioned to support a sustainable environmental impact, while reaching a more diverse audience with an increasingly accessible & sustainable online platform.

This is what you can expect during the programme year by year:

Year 1: Experience  
Already in the first year you will participate in projects covering the four modules:

  • The organization;
  • Marketing and business events;
  • Partner in public events;
  • Global events.

Throughout the first year you learn about the fundamentals of online marketing and event organisation, sustainability and personal development. To take advantage of the beautiful weather your first internship will begin immediately after the last module. You will return to school in the autumn already seasoned with professional experience and personal branding skills!  

Year 2: Empowerment  
Your second-year curriculum will give you the tools to enhance the reach and scope of your marketing and event strategy. You will learn about creative conceptualizing, branding and broadcasting as well as techniques to be applied as a live-online social media influencer.

Year 3: Entrepreneurship employability 
In your third and final academic year you will apply new technology for your employer or to your own enterprise! The last two modules will find you happily working at your final internship. This will set the stage for your grand entrance into the professional world of international marketing and event management. You’ll be ready to be an excellent employee or as an excellent entrepreneur!  

Collaboration with partners   
We collaborate with multiple partners in the international event management industry, such as KLM Golf, ABN AMRO, Lowlands, Nationale Nederlanden, Rotterdam marathon, Venture Café, Tribe Company, House of Esports, H20 Esports Campus, Luxor Theater, Ahoy conference centre and of course the local government of Rotterdam.

With a diploma in International event management studies you can work directly for a marketing department of an international company,  marketing agencies, event agencies, conference centres and fairs or set yourself up as an independent entrepreneur. Either way you will be thrown into the exciting and timeless world of international marketing and event production, often working late hours supporting the marketing and/or event  manager when it all comes together.  

There is an ever growing variety of job opportunities in online marketing and/or managing international events, such as business related fairs, charity fundraisers, marketing events and product launches. Our course is uniquely designed to launch your career as an innovative international marketing and event management professional. You become a professional who will provide marketing strategies and events for the (local) government, international compagnies or E-sports events.

You can start with a middle management course (level 4) if you have one of the following preparatory programmes:

  • A diploma from vmbo (pre-vocational secondary education), mixed vocational programme, theoretical programme or equivalent
  • A diploma from mbo (senior secondary education) at level 2.
  • A diploma from mbo (vocational programme) at level 3.
  • A transition certificate from 3 havo / vwo to year 4.
  • A different diploma or piece of evidence that the government has recognized on the basis of a ministerial regulation.

What skills do you need?

To work in the international event and marketing sector, you have to be flexible and open minded. Imagine you’ll hear ten minutes before the start of an event that the artist cannot make it on time! You’ll have to come up with a flexible and resolving solution. To do so you need to be focused, creative and solution oriented. It’s important that you can understand the client’s wishes/needs. With your skills you set up a perfect online marketing strategy or organize a dynamic, in-person or hybrid event.  

Furthermore: 
Personal skills: flexible, enthusiastic about events, solution oriented, open to work outside office hours. 
Social skills: sophisticated communication skills, both written and oral, able to listen to your client.  
Characteristic traits: accurate, stress resistant.

Training costs

The costs of the course depend on your age. The Minister of Education adjusts the tuition fees annually. The amounts below apply to the academic year 2021/2022.  

Costs sphere younger than 18 years  
Are you younger than 18 years at the beginning of the academic year (1 August)? Then you will not pay tuition fees.  
 
Costs of a course over 18 years 
If you are 18 years of age or older at the beginning of the academic year (1 August), you will pay tuition fees of € 608. Then the tuition fee is € 608 (instead of € 1216). The Ministry of Education (OCW) has reduced the tuition fees for the 2021-2022 academic year by 50%. More information on the level of tuition fees can be found at rijksoverheid.nl. 

Other compulsory costs 
For this programme you will pay approximately 395 euros in books and licences. You will also follow a number of electives within the programme. The educational tools for the elective parts of this programme are free of charge. On the page 'explanation of training costs' you will find a detailed explanation of the different costs and a possible contribution to the training costs.  

Btec diploma is approximately 450 euro during the three years. These are mandatory costs.  

Sitting for the Anglia diploma is a decision you’ll make in the third year and participation in the exam will cost approximately € 240,00.   

Voluntary costs 
Internationalisation and gaining experience abroad run like a thread through the study programme. We offer language trips, internships abroad and international exchange programmes. Although you may be eligible for Erasmus grants, you must take into account additional costs if you want to participate in these activities. The costs for excursions and language trips vary from 50 euros to 1.000 euros.

Application procedure

After you have applied, you will receive an invitation for an intake in which you are obliged to participate. It is important that you have provided the correct email address and postal address when registering. If you are unable to come, please cancel. If you wish, you can also indicate a another preference when you register.  

You are entitled to admission to this programme if you meet the following conditions:

  • You apply no later than 1 April
  • You meet the statutory admission requirements
  • You participate in the compulsory intake activity/activities.

The intake procedure consists of several steps:  
A general briefing, personal assignments and an individual intake interview. If you have completed these steps with a positive result, you will be advised to start the bilingual programme. An assessment will be made based on your level of English and your motivation. It is possible that you will be admitted for the Dutch variant but not for the English (IMES) variant. 

Even if you apply after 1 April, your application will be processed as quickly as possible. You will also be invited for an intake. The difference is that you will no longer have an automatic right of admission to the Dutch (MEV) or English (IMES)programme of your choice. Albeda will do its best to place you in the course of your choice. If you cannot be placed on the programme of your choice, we will consult with you to decide which other programme is suitable for you.

Excellence track & international activities

The international marketing and event management study program at Albeda is an ‘excellence track’: a bilingual program in which 85% of the subjects are taught in English (leading to an Anglia exam certificate). Students of International event management studies have the possibility to earn an internationally recognised BTEC diploma from the United Kingdom. This is an internationally recognized qualification in business that will increase your success in the job market. With your BTEC diploma in International Marketing Management you will be able to use all your newly skills in an international career in the competitive business event market. These modules are consistently addressed over the three-year program. Academically our program is designed to prepare you for the unique skills and sensibilities required to thrive in the 21st century job market. It is designed around three contemporary modules:  
 

  • Competency in creativity (conceptualizing  and storytelling); 
  • Online marketing; 
  • Event technology (gamification, hybrid, esports), International and entrepreneurship.

MBO - HBO transition programme  

Are you considering an economic hbo study after your mbo? Then you can choose for extra guidance to make the transition to the hbo: the transition program MBO-HBO.  

This programme is a collaboration between the Rotterdam schools for intermediate and higher vocational education: Zadkine, Albeda, STC Group, Inholland University of Applied Sciences and Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. The aim of the transition programme is to increase your chances of successfully completing your HBO study. There are three opportunities to take advantage of this programme. 

  • at the end of your second year by means of a development assessment.
  • in the third year of the MBO by following the elective called preparation HBO.
  • during your first year at HBO with extra guidance.
